Police investigating suspicious package in west Topeka, bomb squad on scene
TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - Police blocked off parts of 6th street in west Topeka Tuesday night to investigate a suspicious package.
8:54 p.m.
The TPD bomb unit collected the suspicious package from the car and "were able to render the item safe". Police have not identified the item at this time, according to officers on scene.
Officers have opened up the shutdown roads, and the Topeka Fire Department has now taken over the investigation, according to Topeka police.
7:10 p.m.
Topeka police arrived at the Chalet Apartment complex around 5:30 p.m. to investigate a suspicious package found in a car on the west side of the property. Officers have asked people to avoid 6th street between Southwest Yorkshire and Southwest Gage Boulevard while the TPD bomb unit investigates, according to a news release.
6:49 p.m.
Officers have blocked off 6th Street from Yorkshire Street to Gage Park to investigate a suspicious package found at the Chalet Apartments in a car. A bomb squad has been sent to the apartment complex to assist with the investigation, according to the Topeka police.
