Jacinta Gonzalez

Field director and senior campaign director, Mijente

Jacinta González fights for migrant communities.

As field director for Mijente, an advocacy organization for Latinx people, she has highlighted how Silicon Valley profits from the federal government's strict immigration policies. 

"Through the #NoTechforIce campaign, we've really been trying to expose the tech and data companies that are fueling Trump's deportation machinery," González said in an interview with Business Insider. 

Last year, Mijente released a report detailing how Palantir, a data management company, created tools that enforcement agencies use to separate and deport undocumented migrants. 

"We have to really pull back the curtain so that people can understand how tech and data is really aiding ICE immigration and customs enforcement and police departments that are brutalizing Black and brown people across the United States," said González. "For us, it's been around both raising awareness, but also making people choose a side."

Rashad Robinson

President, Color of Change 

Fighting Big Tech is also part of Rashad Robinson's pursuit of racial justice.

"When I have sat across the table with Mark Zuckerberg, and he has tried to defend the Daily Caller being a fact-checking news site, and Breitbart being a fact-checking site when they have advanced white nationalists, I have to say to him, 'Then it's hard to trust that you actually care about civil rights,'" Robinson said.

Robinson is president of Color of Change, an online civil rights advocacy organization founded in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina killed over 1,800 people — nearly all of whom were Black.

Today, Color of Change has over 1.7 million members.  

Since taking over the nonprofit in 2011, Robinson has organized demonstrations to end police brutality and campaigns to protect internet freedom, as well as spearheaded an advertiser boycott of Facebook that pressured the platform to crack down on hateful content.

Nicole LaPointe Jameson

CEO, Evil Geniuses

As a Black woman in an industry dominated by young white and Asian men, Nicole LaPointe Jameson has been vocal about her desire to make the gaming industry more inclusive.

LaPointe Jameson became CEO of esports organization Evil Geniuses at just 27 years old.

"One thing I was very excited to bring to the esports space was that in order to be competitively successful, you have to have your doors open to any talent, no matter what they look like, their creed, their religion, their background, their sexual orientation," said LaPointe Jameson.

In June, the company removed two members involved in inappropriate conduct.

"We're very public with our values and we're very public with our opinions and how we take action on them. And I was pleased to see that more people were positively receptive because it was, as unfortunate as it is to say, a bit of a first-mover action in the gaming and esports space," she said.

Janine Guillot

CEO, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board

Consumers appreciate transparency, and that's what Janine Guillot promotes in the world of investing — an industry which usually puts profit ahead of social impact.

As CEO of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, her aim is to put reliable data about environmental, social, and governance criteria into the hands of those in charge of trillions of dollars.

"I'm very interested in systems change and what are the levers of systems change, and how do you change the behaviors of very, very large groups of people," Guillot said.

James Reinhart

CEO and cofounder, ThredUp

James Reinhart is the founder and CEO of ThredUp.com, an online marketplace for secondhand clothes. 

"At a time when there's so much disruption happening in the world, I think people step back and ask themselves, you know, what kind of changes do I want to make in my life?" Reinhart said.

"We've really seen some momentum in this idea that I can be a better, a more conscious consumer. Maybe I don't need quite as many new things as I thought I did," he said.
