Carroll posts cheeky Instagram picture saying only ‘pencil jumps’ are allowed after controversial penalty vs Tottenham
CHEEKY Andy Carroll has taken to Instagram to sympathise with Tottenham after he helped Newcastle win a controversial penalty on Sunday.
The giant striker came off the bench and won a header deep into added-time that struck the arm of Eric Dier, who was looking the other way, inside the box.
Andy Carroll helped Newcastle claim a controversial penalty against Tottenham and then cheekily posted about it on Instagram[/caption]VAR was called into action, and after referee Peter Bankes reviewed the footage several times, he pointed to the spot to allow Callum Wilson to net an unlikely equaliser.
Now former England forward Carroll has taken to social media to join a host of others, including his manager Steve Bruce, in criticising the handball rule.
He posted a snap of a stick man performing a “pencil jump” and claimed it was the “new rule for any aerial challenges” in his caption.
Carroll continued to sympathise with Spurs in his Insta post, adding: “I feel your pain!”
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho was fuming over the decision and instantly marched down the touchline before the spot-kick was taken.
He said afterwards: “I don’t want to speak about it.
“The only feeling I am ready to share is that I don’t feel Tottenham is respected according to to what the club is. No respect.”
This was the latest controversial call relating to penalties awarded for handball so far this season.
With both Manchester United’s Victor Lindelof and Crystal Palace’s Joel Ward also joining Dier as recent victims.
