[Men's Soccer] St. Andrews Shuts Out Lions in Season Opener
LAURINBURG, NC- The St. Andrews University Men's Soccer team won their season opener against AAC foe, Bryan College, in a shutout 1-0.
How it Happened
1st Half
The Knights showed strong defense in the first half, holding the Lions of Bryan College to just 2 shots on goal.
St. Andrews had 7 shots in the 1st half compared to Bryan's 4. Knights' goalkeeper, Alessandro Benedetti, secured 2 saves in the first half.
2nd Half
The Lions put the pressure on the Knights in the beginning of the 2nd half, forcing Benedetti to make a save on two shots.
St. Andrews responded in the 53rd minute when Jacob Hancock netted the lone goal of the game with a shot off the Lion's goalkeeper's glove.
Bryan continued the pressure in the remaining minutes of the half but could not put a shot past Benedetti.
The Knights were led by Jacob Hancock's goal and 5 shots with 2 on goal. Alessandro Benedetti had a strong performance in the net with 7 saves, while allowing no goals.
