Mark Magsayo to face Rigoberto Hermosillo
15
Unbeaten Filipino hopeful Mark Magsayo (20-0, 14) was expected to return to the ring on September 23rd to take on American fighter Jose Haro (15-1-1, 8). That bout was then delayed, before being cancelled all together, with Haro announcing his retirement from the sport, leaving Magsayo opponent-less.
Thankfully the event organisers have managed to find a replacement for Haro, and we'll see Magsayo return on October 3rd in his first bout of 2020.
The unbeaten Filipino will be taking on an awful one as the unbeaten Filipino will now take on Rigoberto Hermosillo (11-2-1, 8), who's record is underwhelming but he should present something of a test for Magsayo.
The twice beaten Mexican has lost his last 2, but did give recent world title challenger Manny Robles III a very competitive fight in May 2019. Sadly he followed up that solid performance with a clear loss to talented Ukrainian Viktor Slavinskyi.
In many ways the bout isn't supposed to be a legitimate test for "Magnifico" but more a show case of the Filipino contender, who has long been tipped for big things. Though the fact Hermosillo can ask questions, on his night, means that we could see Magsayo needing to do a little bit more than just go through the gears.
Sadly though it is a big down grade from Haro.
The bout will headline a Fox Desportes card on October 3rd live from the Microsoft Theater in LA and will hopefully kick start Magsayo's career some frustrating times in recent years. He looked set for big fights in 2016, following a win over Chris Avalos, but has seen his progress slowed by a number of issues, including a split from ALA and some backwards match making following the Avalos bout.
