Chester FC V Trafford - Match Thread #7 - Pre-Season Friendly - 26/09/
10
With only a week to go until our competitive campaign commences, we host Trafford at home today in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly as we look to record another positive result. Due to our opponents playing two divisions below us it won’t be the most ideal test, although at least it will be another chance for our managers to look at some trialists and it will be another runout for our lads.
Our last match was on Tuesday night as we beat Vauxhall Motors 4-0 away in what was a really promising performance. The first half was very dominant by us as we played some lovely stuff and remained professional. Just minutes in John Johnston made it 1-0 to us by hammering into the top corner after good work by George Waring. On the 15th minute mark Will Goodwin was a whisker away from making it 2-0 to us as he struck the crossbar. We weren’t to dwell on that for long though as George Waring got in on the act again to make it 2-0 to us with a strong header. With not long to go before half time centre back Simon Grand made it 3-0 to us as he slammed in. A very dominant first half showing saw us take a comfortable lead into the break. The second period was a bit more even as Vauxhall Motors had some good spells in their mission to salvage a way back into the game. We still had our chances though, with one notable one being from Danny Elliott who forced Ryan Crump to flick his shot onto the crossbar. With not long before time Trialist C put the icing on the cake to make it 4-0 to us by finishing off a well-worked move. Despite us putting our feet off the gas in the second half we were still able to emerge from Ellesmere Port with a convincing result.
Trafford will be making the trip from Greater Manchester who ply their trade in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One North West, where they began their campaign last Saturday with a scoreless draw against Tadcaster Albion. Prior to their season being curtailed by Covid-19 last time out, The North only just finished in the top half so they will be hoping to mount a play-off push this campaign. We were actually supposed to meet with Lancashire-based Trafford in a friendly back in August, which was eventually cancelled due to our season start date falling back.
Given our opponents are up-to-speed with their campaign it’ll be interesting to see how this one pans out as they will be reverting to non-competitive football just for this occasion. I still think it will be a routine win for us though, especially on home turf although it will be a huge shame that nobody will be in attendance. Come On You Seals!
Score: Chester FC (Waring, Elliott, Morgan) 3-0 Trafford
Attendance: 0 (0 Trafford)
My predicted lineup:
Gray
Morgan Livesey Grand Taylor
Jackson Trialist? Trialist? Trialist?
Waring Marsh-Hughes
