Gruesome advert shows how quickly coronavirus spreads in your home
A grim new Government advert uses green slime to depict the risk of spreading coronavirus around a loved one’s house.
The sinister film shows a young woman smearing gunk all over her grandad’s home to reinforce the stark ‘don’t kill your grandparents’ message.
In the footage, the woman hugs her relative before making him a cup of tea, leaving remnants of ‘the virus’ on cupboards, mugs and the kettle.
She’s seen watching footage of a night out on her phone, where presumably she caught the infection.
The older man is then himself pictured covered with green goo as he thanks her for making the tea. It ends with the message ‘Don’t pass coronavirus to those you love.’

Some have said the chilling advert, which includes a dark horror-film inspired soundtrack and mood lighting, ‘brings home the risk of not following the guidelines correctly.’
On Twitter one person wrote it was ‘simple but excellent.’ Another said he thought that if the virus was this visible in real life, people would take hygiene ‘100% more seriously.’
Others have called it ‘scare mongering’ and ‘divisive’ because it places the blame on younger generations for spreading the disease. Some worried it would leave older people isolated over the winter as relatives would be too worried to visit.
Governments have spent millions on public information campaigns since the start of the pandemic.
Public Health England became the nation’s biggest spender on advertising during the lockdown, spending £44million between March 23 and June 30.
The spend was nearly 5,000% more than the same period last year and included adverts on TV, radio, newspapers and billboards.
Yesterday Scotland recorded its biggest single day rise in coronavirus cases with 486 people testing positive in 24 hours.
Nicola Sturgeon has gone further than Boris Johnson in introducing stricter measures to try to reduce cases.
People are currently banned from visiting other households indoors and are only allowed to meet a maximum of six others from two different households outdoors.
The Scottish First Minister has written to the Prime Minister, calling for him ‘as much coordination’ as possible between the nations.
She accepted the new restrictions were ‘tough’ and said they had not been introduced lightly.
Yesterday she warned Scotland is ‘at a tipping point’ and said: ‘If we don’t act now, urgently and decisively, then we might find Covid running out of control again.’
