1 man, 2 women arrested in death of California man who was run over with his own car by thief
One man and two women have been arrested after a man’s work van was stolen and a suspect fleeing with it fatally ran the victim over Tuesday morning, Sept. 22, in Anaheim, police said.
Jose DeJesus Berrelleza, 33, confronted a man stealing his van early at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Melinda Circle, said Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer.
During the encounter, Berrelleza fell from the van as it was driven away and was run over and killed.
“It is believed Berrelleza, the father of an 8-year-old daughter, attempted to stop the theft of the vehicle to prevent the loss of his livelihood,” Carringer said Wednesday morning.
A couple of hours later, police found the van and detained the three people inside who were arrested.
Omar Sanchez, 28, the suspected driver, and Yesenia Escareno, 21, accused of dropping him off near the van, were booked on suspicion of murder, carjacking and receiving stolen property. Adriana Gomez, 29, was arrested for being an accessory to the crime. All are Anaheim residents.
