Mourinho ignores former Madrid colleagues voicing serious Bale concern

Jose Mourinho’s former colleagues at Real Madrid have warned the Tottenham boss to “proceed with caution” over a move for Gareth Bale, according to a report.

Spurs are keen on a deal to bring Bale back to North London after his recent troubles in the Spanish capital. Indeed, the Wales international’s agent has confirmed he is in talks with Spurs.

“We are talking,” Jonathan Barnett told BBC Radio Wales, referring to Tottenham, Real Madrid and Bale. “He still loves Spurs. It’s where he wants to be.”

Mourinho refused to comment on the situation in Wednesday’s press conference but, according to ESPN, he has received a stark warning from his former workmates about the deal.

The source says the Portuguese manager has asked insiders at Madrid why Bale has fallen out of favour. Bale’s situation reached boiling point in August when boss Zinedine Zidane did not pick him in his Champions League squad.

Mourinho’s former colleagues have reportedly warned him that Bale will “struggle to meet expectations”.

What’s more, they have told Mourinho to think very carefully about the move, citing Bale’s injury record. The winger has spent several spells on the sidelines in his time in Spain.

However, ESPN adds that Mourinho feels unfazed by the advice. Instead, the manager is pressing on, confident that Bale can make a stunning impact.

Mourinho is looking to ease the goalscoring burden currently on Harry Kane’s shoulders at Tottenham. The England captain is his side’s only recognised striker, despite Spurs’ ample selection of wide players.

Bale has produced several outstanding moments in his time with Madrid. His overhead kick helped Real beat Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final, while he also scored a sensational goal in the 2014 Copa del Rey final.

Meanwhile, reports on Tuesday claimed Spurs are considering offloading Dele Alli as part of the deal for Bale.

Alli showed sensational form under Mauricio Pochettino but he struggled to make a similar impact last season.

Now, pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor says Mourinho and Alli’s fractious relationship is causing concern.
