Manchester United face backlash as £80m target signs a deal with the current club
Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has signed a new contract extension to stay at the club. [source-Goal] The playmaker has signed a five-year deal.
Jack Grealish has been a long time transfer target for Manchester United. He was United’s priority signing this summer beside Jadon Sancho.
United were hopeful of signing Grealish on the cheap before the Premier League ended but Aston Villa’s successful fight against relegation killed those hopes.
Villa slapped a huge £80m price tag on their captain after securing Premier League survival. United’s preoccupation with Jadon Sancho put a move for Grealish on the back-burner and now the club has lost all hope of signing both their big-money targets.
Sancho’s deal is slowly dying as United have refused to pay Borussia Dortmund’s £108m asking price.
Grealish’s quality has been on notice throughout the past season. His performances had also attracted the eye of Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs. The Welsh national team manager urged his former side to go and get Grealish.
Grealish’s contract extension is another bullet stuck in Man United’s armor.
United’s performance in the transfer window has been sub-par until now. The club has only managed to sign Donny Van De Beek from Ajax.
In the same interval, they have failed to sign Sancho, Grealish, Sergio Reguilon, Gabriel Magalhaes, Douglas Costa and Ben Chilwell. The club are also behind Manchester City in the race for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
They are still in talks to recruit Alex Telles for the left-back position and Thiago for the midfield.
The transfer window is about to close in less than a month and the new Premier League season is also upon us. United’s priorities in the wing and defence have still not been filled and that should be a worrying sign for fans and the manager alike.
