Kailen Sheridan Nominated for First Save of the Week of NWSL Fall Series
Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan has been nominated for the NWSL Fall Series week one Save of the Week. Her kick save in the 82nd minute against Washington Spirit earned her the nomination.
The NWSL Challenge Cup Golden Glove winner made a crucial save against Katie McClure on the breakaway by cutting off the angle and kicking her leg out to make the save. The save proved to be important, as it kept Sky Blue FC on top until a late penalty equalizer from Washington leveled the match. Forward Midge Purce eventually won the match for Sky Blue with a stoppage-time breakaway goal off a through ball from forward Mallory Pugh.
The Canadian international is no stranger to big saves, especially against the Spirit. In their previous matchup, Sheridan made a penalty kick save against the Spirit in July to advance Sky Blue into the Challenge Cup Semifinals.
Fans can vote for Sheridan’s save here. The club returns to NWSL Fall Series action in Chicago against the Red Stars on September 20, at 1 PM EST.
