Visa issues may delay Kudratillo Abdukakhorov's bout with Sergey Lipinets
According to the reliable Olamsport.com there is a potential issue with the scheduled October 10th bout between Kudratillo Abdukakhorov (17-0, 9) [Қудратилло Абдуқаҳҳоровдан] and former world champion Sergey Lipinets (16-1, 12) [Сергей Липинец], which will be for the IBF "interim" Welterweight title.
The bout, which is around 4 weeks away, could end up hitting a snag due to Abdukakhorov having some issues in getting a visa, due to delays with the US Embassy in Uzbekistan.
The talented Uzbek is still in Tashkent, where he's currently training. The plan, as is always the case, is to get over from one country to another with plenty of time to acclimatise to the conditions. Sadly however the issues with his visa are holding up Abdukakhorov's departure from his home.
If the delay continues the bout is likely to be postponed and rescheduled for November.
The fighter gave comments to Olamsport about the situation and explained:
"Currently, I am training in Tashkent.
The visa issue should be resolved within 2-3 days, otherwise the fight will be postponed to November.
Top Rank has also been informed about this.
In 2-3 days the US embassy will open and if we get a visa, I will go to the ocean. Otherwise, my fight will be postponed to November" [Translated]
If the bout does end up being delayed both men will have been out of action for more than a year. Lipinets has been out of the ring since July 2019, when he beat late replacement Jayar Inson, and Abdukakhorov hasn't fought since his October 2019 win over Luis Collazo.
