Sir Keir wrote on Twitter: “I’m very pleased and relieved that the test result for one of my children came back negative this morning.

“Thank you to the NHS hospital where my wife works for ensuring that their staff and family members have quick access to a test.”

Sir Keir and his wife, Victoria, have two children together, an 11-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter.

Both of Sir Keir’s children have been going to school throughout the pandemic at a local Camden school.

Victoria works for the NHS in occupational health.

Sir Keir was forced to miss the debate on the controversial Brexit bill earlier this week while self-isolating.

Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner will be standing in for Sir Keir in PMQs today.

Ms Rayner said this lunchtime: “Keir had to wait for his coronavirus test results despite the Prime Minister’s promise of results within 24 hours.

“Keir was able to do the right thing and self-isolate and work from home.

“But many people aren’t in this position – many are the very people who are helping us get through this crisis.”

Sir Keir called the testing fiasco “desperate”, after Health Secretary Matt Hancock was forced to admit it would take weeks to solve growing shortages of tests.

And swabs will have to start being rationed again, with NHS and social care workers prioritised.

The Labour leader added: “However, I know the situation is desperate at the moment for thousands of families across the country who are struggling to get a test.

“They deserve answers and for this problem to be fixed.”
