Pelosi attacks Trump with ‘drinking bleach and injecting Lysol’ dig after president again said COVID will ‘disappear’
NANCY Pelosi issued a thinly-veiled dig at Donald Trump after he said coronavirus would “just disappear.”
On Thursday, the House Speaker issued a stinging rebuke on Twitter after the President said he hoped the deadly bug would vanish.
“Mr. President, drinking bleach and injecting Lysol won’t make it disappear,” Pelosi tweeted, referencing Trump touting the corrosive substances as possible cures for COVID-19.
Yesterday, he told Fox Business “we’re gonna be very good with the coronavirus” as over half the country reported a worrying uptick in infections and hospitalizations.
“I think that at some point that’s going to sort of just disappear, I hope,” Trump said.
Back in April, he was criticized for suggesting that injecting disinfecting might help kill coronavirus.
Trump said the Department of Homeland Security showed how disinfectants – including alcohol and bleach – can be used on surfaces to kill the virus.
“And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute,” he said. “And is there a way we can do something like that?
“By injecting inside, or almost a cleaning, because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that.”
The next day, he told reporters he was being sarcastic “just to see what would happen” and said he couldn’t imagine why there was a supposed spike in people using bleach.
“I was asking a sarcastic and a very sarcastic question to the reporters in the room about disinfectant on the inside,” he said.
“But it does kill it and it would kill it on the hands, and that would make things much better.”
After Trump’s comments, the Food and Drug Administration and several disinfectant companies produced guidelines advising people to not inject the chemicals.
More recently, Pelosi has zeroed in on Trump’s reluctance to wear a mask as she demanded the government mandate face coverings.
On Sunday, Pelosi, a Democrat from California, said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention should mandate it to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
She said the CDC recommended using them, but claimed it was never enforced because health officials didn’t want to “offend” President Donald Trump.
Trump has avoided wearing masks and recently said during an interview that he thinks they are problematic.
Pelosi said on ABC News: “The president should be an example. Real men wear masks, be an example to the country, wear a mask.”
“It’s not about protecting yourself, it’s about protecting others.”
