A major police operation has been underway this evening at the River Thames in Berkshire.

Swimmers are reported to have got into difficulty at Odney Weir in Cookham, near Maidenhead.

Local residents said that there was a massive presence with at least 40 emergency vehicles from the police, ambulance service and fire brigades from Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

A group of three men were said to have been diving into the fast-moving water.

However, South Central Ambulance Service said that the social media reports of three boys drowning were ‘not correct’.

Police have not yet released an update into the operation.
